Introduction
Since 2012, PD Dr. Lukas Frenzel has headed the Laboratory for Apoptosis Signaling Pathways and Therapy Resistance, which has received funding as a CIO Junior Research Group and investigates the mechanistic basis of resistance to new, chemotherapy-free therapeutic approaches and develops solutions to overcome it. His group was part of KFO-286 and is currently part of SFB-1530, as well as being associated with CECAD and CMMC.
Cell death mechanisms represent central processes in cancer development as well as in treatment resistance. In recent years, it has been shown that apoptosis molecules are also involved in other cell death mechanisms and can thus influence inflammatory processes. This overlap is one of the group’s main areas of focus and is being investigated in lymphoid and myeloid leukemias.
