Family support and gender

The CMMC has a strong interest in supporting female research scientists and clinicians in general and those staff members with children in particular.

The CMMC therefore provides an on-site 24 h-access ParentsKids Room as well as supports staff members with, e.g. finding baby sitters, daycare, etc. In emergency cases, ad hoc day care is available at the Spielland at the University Hospital.

ParentsKids Room

The ParentsKids Room is located on the ground floor of the CMMC and is open to all staff members as well as to visitors who attend seminars, workshops or conferences. The room is equipped with toys for children from 1 to 6 years old and also offers laptops and desk facilities. Pregnant women and nursing mothers can also use it as a quiet room including the usage of the CMMC kitchenette (opposite of the ParentsKids Room).

The installation of this room has been supported by the CRC 829 "Molecular Mechanisms Regulating Skin Homeostasis" and the Deans Office of Academic Development and Gender of the Faculty of Medicine.

Spielland at the University Hospital Cologne

Offers hourly ad hoc daycare for children between 2 and 9 years of age for all employees and students of the University of Cologne, including the University Hospital and its visitors and patients. Arrangements can also be made in advance if, e.g. the regular daycare center is closed for one day.
