New Leadership for Young Immunologists
The Young Immunologists of the German Society for Immunology (DGfI) have elected a new board for the 2025–2027 term. Dr. Sebastian Theobald, postdoctoral researcher (Rybniker group) in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Clinic I for Internal Medicine and researcher at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMMC), has been re-elected to the board after his term from 2023 to 2025. Louise M. Cremer, doctoral student at the Institute for Translational Research at the CECAD Cluster of Excellence under Prof. Dr. Oliver A. Cornely, has been elected deputy spokesperson. Both will be working intensively to promote the interests and networking of young scientists in immunology.
With over 550 members, the Young Immunologists are one of the most active junior research groups in Germany. They connect young scientists at the national and European levels, organize seminar series, podcasts (ImmunoChat), workshops, and symposia, and regularly provide information about funding opportunities, awards, and scholarships.
“I am delighted to be part of this dedicated team for another two years,” says Dr. Theobald. “Immunology is developing rapidly, which makes it all the more important to offer young researchers a stable platform for exchange, visibility, and career opportunities. I see it as our task to further strengthen and expand these structures.” Louise M. Cremer is also highly motivated in her new role: “As a young scientist, I know how valuable networks, exchange formats, and visibility are in the early stages of a career. I want to help ensure that our offerings reach as many young immunologists as possible—regardless of whether they work in the laboratory, are studying, or are involved in clinical research.”
With their interdisciplinary work, the Young Immunologists make a significant contribution to the future-oriented development of immunology in Germany and to the targeted promotion and networking of young scientists.
