Tumor heterogeneity may account for Invasion and metastasis testicular germ cell tumors. In our previous work we have identified predictive signatures for metastasis as well as immune regulatory networks such as IL6 signalling differentially expressed on the invasive front of seminomas. Here we will further approach the heterogenous composition of the germ cell tumor microenvironment in an interdisciplinary research project which will combine spatial and whole genome assessments in TGCT for evaluation of metastatic disease and to exploit its mechanisms for therapeutic approaches.
Tumor heterogeneity is a major challenge in cancer therapy accounting for development of resistance. In testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT), the majority of patients show good response to chemotherapy, but patients facing resistance still have a poor prognosis. Chemo-refractory disease remains an obstacle that cannot be overcome with targeted or immune therapy.
