Speaker: Session 4 - Immunity and Metabolism

Dr. Jane Reznick is Research Group Leader at the CECAD Research Centre, University of Cologne, Germany, where she investigates the role of metabolism in tissue homeostasis, stress responses, and regeneration.

Her research focuses on how metabolic flexibility and cellular plasticity determine organismal healthspan and regenerative capacity. Using the naked mole-rat as a model system, Dr. Reznick has uncovered an extraordinary capacity for cardiac regeneration following myocardial infarction in this long-lived mammal. Her work aims to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this phenotype, with particular emphasis on how metabolic pathways support tissue repair and resilience.

Employing multi-omics and integrative systems approaches, her research has identified extracellular matrix–based mechanisms with strong translational potential, some of which are currently being advanced toward therapeutic application. These studies provide novel insight into how metabolic adaptations can be harnessed to promote regeneration and protect against tissue damage.

Dr. Reznick’s work is supported by competitive funding, including a European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept grant, and has gained international recognition in the field of metabolism and aging research.
