Speaker: Session 5 - Nucleic Acid Metabolism
Professor Hendrik Poeck is Professor of Medicine at the University Hospital Regensburg and a clinician-scientist in hematology and oncology. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of anti-tumor immunity, with a particular emphasis on innate immune sensing and microbiome–immune interactions.
He has made important contributions to understanding how nucleic acid–sensing pathways regulate anti-tumor immune responses. His work demonstrated that activation of the RNA sensor RIG-I in tumor cells enhances dendritic cell activation and T cell–mediated immunity through modulation of extracellular vesicles.
A central focus of his research is the role of the microbiome and its metabolites in shaping responses to cancer immunotherapies, including CAR T-cell therapy and stem cell transplantation, providing a basis for novel therapeutic strategies. By integrating clinical research with experimental models, his work bridges immunology and oncology to advance next-generation immunotherapies and improve patient outcomes.
Professor Poeck has received several prestigious awards, including an ERC Consolidator Grant and the EBMT Basic Science Award, reflecting the international recognition of his work.
