Speaker: Session 5 - Lipid and Fatty Acid Metabolism
Professor Kitt Petersen is Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) at Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, USA, and a leading clinical investigator in the field of human metabolism and metabolic disease.
Her research focuses on the in vivo investigation of insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction using advanced physiological and imaging approaches. Prof. Petersen has been instrumental in quantifying intracellular glucose and lipid metabolism in humans, particularly through the application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Her work has helped define key mechanisms linking ectopic lipid accumulation in liver and skeletal muscle to insulin resistance and the development of type 2 diabetes.
By integrating clinical investigation with mechanistic analysis, her research has provided important insights into how alterations in hepatic and muscle metabolism contribute to metabolic disease. These studies have advanced the understanding of human metabolic physiology and informed therapeutic strategies targeting insulin resistance and diabetes.
Professor Petersen´s work has gained international recognition and has significantly advanced the understanding of insulin resistance in humans.
