Speaker: Session 3 - Amino Acid Metabolism
Professor Hozumi Motohashi is Professor of Medical Biochemistry at the Graduate School of Medicine, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, and a leading investigator in the field of redox biology and metabolic regulation.
Hozumi Motohashi research focuses on transcriptional and metabolic responses to cellular stress, with particular emphasis on NRF2-dependent gene regulation. Prof. Motohashi has been instrumental in defining the central role of NRF2 in oxidative stress responses and metabolic adaptation, and in identifying distinct metabolic features associated with NRF2 activation in cancer. Her work has further advanced the understanding of sulfur metabolism, including the role of supersulfides as key mediators of redox signaling.
Using molecular, genetic, and biochemical approaches, her research investigates how redox regulation and metabolic pathways are coordinated to maintain cellular homeostasis and how their dysregulation contributes to aging and disease. These studies provide a mechanistic framework for understanding how cells adapt to environmental stress through integrated transcriptional and metabolic programs.
Professor Motohashi´s work has gained international recognition and has significantly advanced the field of redox biology and metabolic regulation.
