Speaker: Session 4 - Immunity and Metabolism
Professor Kenji Kabashima is Professor and Chair of Dermatology at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, and holds a joint appointment at the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) and ASTAR Skin Research Labs (ASRL), Singapore. He is a leading investigator in the field of skin and barrier immunology.
His research focuses on immune regulation in barrier tissues, with particular emphasis on the skin as a model for tissue-specific immunity. Prof. Kabashima has been instrumental in defining the roles of tissue-resident immune cells in maintaining immune homeostasis and coordinating local immune responses. His work has elucidated key mechanisms of interaction between dendritic cells, T cells, and cytokine signaling pathways in inflammatory skin diseases, including allergic and autoimmune conditions.
Using in vivo imaging, genetic models, and translational approaches, his research has provided fundamental insights into how immune responses are initiated, spatially organized, and resolved within peripheral tissues. These studies have significantly advanced the understanding of how immune regulation is integrated with tissue function and how its dysregulation contributes to inflammatory disease.
Professor Kabashima has received multiple national and international awards for his contributions to immunology and dermatology.
