Professor Triantafyllos Chavakis is a clinician-scientist, specialized in Internal Medicine and Laboratory Medicine. After his studies in Medicine and doctorate at the University Giessen and work at the Universities of Giessen and Heidelberg, he became principal investigator and head of the Inflammation Biology section of the Experimental Immunology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda MD, USA from 2005-2010. Since 2010 he is professor at the University Hospital Dresden, Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Since 2017 he is Director of the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
He has received 3 ERC Grants (Starting 2011-2016, Consolidator 2017-2022, Advanced 2023-2028), was a highly cited researcher in the years 2022-2024 and is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences “Leopoldina” (since 2023).
Professor Triantafyllos Chavakis is internationally recognized for his contributions to innate immunity and immunometabolism. He has contributed major discoveries to
a) leukocyte recruitment and inflammation initiation and resolution
b) metabolic inflammation
c) trained immunity / innate immune memory.
