Professor Dr. Stephan Baldus, Director of the Department of Cardiology at the Heart Center of Cologne University Hospital and Executive Board Member at the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC), has been awarded the Fritz Acker Foundation Prize for his pioneering work in researching the mechanisms of inflammatory vascular diseases (arteriosclerosis) and interventional heart valve therapy, among other things.

The prize is awarded jointly by the German Heart Foundation and the German Society for Cardiology – Cardiovascular Research (DGK). It honors outstanding achievements in medical research, particularly in the field of heart disease.

At the award ceremony during the board of trustees meeting of the German Heart Foundation, Prof. Baldus gave an impressive update on the National Heart Alliance and the urgency of a “National Cardiovascular Strategy” in view of the continuing high rate of cardiovascular mortality in Germany.
