Roman Thomas awarded the UNIPRENEURS award
Roman Thomas – Professor and Director of the Department of Translational Genomics, Spokesperson for Collaborative Research Centre 1399 at the University of Cologne and associated to the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) – was selected from more than 800 nominated founders for the UNIPRENEURS award. UNIPRENEURS is the most prestigious award for the promotion of entrepreneurship in higher education and research in Germany. The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space have assumed the patronage of the event.

This honour encourages us to continue promoting excellent research and knowledge transfer projects,” says Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, Rector of the University of Cologne.
Professor Dr Thomas is dedicated to researching genetic changes in malignant diseases and developing new therapeutic approaches based on this research. Implementing research findings in clinical practice is a key priority for Thomas. In addition to Lung Cancer Group Cologne, a world-leading research group in the field of lung cancer, Thomas has also founded several companies, brought them to market and, in some cases, sold them to larger pharmaceutical companies. For several years now, Dr Roman Thomas has been drawing on his experience as a founder and entrepreneur in his role as Transfer Officer in the University of Cologne’s Faculty of Medicine, helping the Faculty to successfully transfer research into practical application and supporting other founders in bringing their ideas to fruition.
