At the University of Cologne, this year’s University Awards recognized outstanding achievements across several categories, with a particular focus on sustainability.

The Sustainability Award was presented to the Faculty of Medicine’s Sustainability Working Group, led by Dr. Tomo Saric, the faculty’s sustainability officer. The award honors the exceptional commitment of the group’s approximately 89 members, who systematically integrate sustainability into research, teaching, and everyday clinical practice.

The group takes a holistic approach: in addition to raising awareness of sustainable practices in healthcare, it implements concrete projects on site. At the same time, it fosters an interdisciplinary network that brings together diverse perspectives and promotes ongoing exchange and collaborative learning.

Employees of the University Medical Center are welcome to join the working group. Participation is open to faculty, university hospital staff, as well as employees of medfacilities and other departments. For more information or to register, please contact: AG-Nachhaltigkeit[at]uk-koeln.de

With this award, the University of Cologne underscores the growing importance of sustainability in medicine and recognizes the working group’s contribution to advancing a more sustainable healthcare system.
