3rd Cologne Symposium on Ageing Medicine 2018

3rd Cologne Symposium on Ageing Medicine - Janurary 19, 2019

Many hundred thousands lives can be saved today thanks to the progress of high-performance medicine. As shown by worldwide survival rates, this applies to the vast majority of diseases and certainly to those age-related ones. However, medical advances display, especially in older adults, considerable limitations, so that healthcare professionals should carefully consider what is really helpful to their patients, not only as far as survival is concerned.

After the success of the 2016 kick-off international clinical symposium "From Ageing to Geriatrics" as well as of the 2017 and 2018 Cologne Symposia on Ageing Medicine we are pleased to invite you to the
3rd Cologne Symposium for Ageing Medicine about controversies in the geriatric care of older patients.

For this purpose, experts in the fields of transplant medicine, cardiology, oncology and traumatology will present latest research on chances and challenges of medical progress in advanced age.

The speakers will discuss the clinical state-of-the-art in the context of the gerontological perspective, pointing at the healthcare and scientific priorities needed to bridge the gap between ageing research and multidimensional care of older adults.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Andreas Kruse, Director of the Institute of Gerontology at the University of Heidelberg, one of the leading gerontological institutions worldwide, accepted our invitation as honorary guest speaker. The scientific expertise of Professor Kruse focuses on skills and potentials in old age, ethical and political issues of age, quality of life and rehabilitation in stroke and dementia, end-of-life care as well as the fundamental topic of coping with extreme situations in old age. Professor Kruse's keynote lecture will address different facets of vulnerability in advanced age. As a special highlight Andreas Kruse, who is also a passionate pianist, will accompany his lecture with compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach at a Steinway Piano kindly provided by the company Steinway & Sons (Steinway Retail Deutschland GmbH).

The participation in the symposium is free of charge. For organizational matters free online registration is required. Please register: https://cmmc-registration.uni-koeln.de/altersmedizin/

The language of the Symposium is German.

The 2019 edition of the symposium has been organized by the Departments of Internal Medicine II and III of the University Hospital of Cologne in collaboration with the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC), Univ. of Cologne and CECAD - the Cluster of Excellence, Univ. of Cologne and the St. Marienhospital Cologne.
