The last weeks of a turbulent and still challenging year are now upon us, and we would like to thank you, the members of your research group as well as all collaboration partners very much for the trust you have placed in us and the pleasant cooperation.
The CMMC Brochure may remind you of the 25th anniversary of the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne, which we had the pleasure to celebrate this year together with the Leopoldina with a top-class CMMC Symposium "25 Years of Progress in Molecular Medicine: From Basic Research to Clinical Application" (Sept. 26-28, 2021).
We are proud and grateful for the incredible engagement and of all staff members of the hospital, faculty, students, and all areas interacting with the hospital during the Covid 19 pandemic. This engagement should give us strength for the final push in managing the pandemic. With this in mind, we would also like to thank you very much.
We look forward to our continued successful collaboration in the new year.
We wish you, your loved once and your colleagues and team members a wonderful Holiday Seasons and for the New Year 2021, besides happiness and success, above all health.
Professor Dr. Thomas Benzing (Chair of the CMMC) and the members of the Executive CMMC Board
The image provided by Katarzyna Bozek (CMMC - Data Science and Bioimages) shows foot processes of podocyte cells in kidney overlaid with their segmentation map. These morphological structures of podocytes change in disease, when the filtration capacity of kidney is compromised. "Our automated segmentation of foot processes allows to precisely quantify the disease-related change at a large scale“, Katarzyna Bozek comments. This work was done in collaboration with Nephrolab Cologne and specifically will Linus Butt and David Unnersjö-Jess who generated the data.
