Introducing Professor Dr. Michael Bollig

He is a world-renowned anthropologist specializing in the fields of social and cultural anthropology, with a particular emphasis on environmental anthropology and political ecology in sub-Saharan Africa. The scope of his research encompasses human-environment relationships, political ecology, and the transformation of local knowledge system and examines for example the impact of humans, livestock and wildlife on the African savannah in Namibia and Kenya. He has led several collaborative research projects, including the "Arid Climate, Adaptation and Cultural Innovation in Africa" (ACACIA) and "Future Rural Africa," focusing on environmental change and rural development. In April 2021, he received the most prestigious funding award in European research, the ERC Advanced Grant, for his REWILDING project. 

His work is highly recognized for its interdisciplinary approach, integrating anthropology, ecology and history to shed light on the complexities of human-environment interactions in African contexts.

Program "Sustainability Days 2025"

The Sustainability Working Group of the University of Cologne's Faculty of Medicine, along with other stakeholders and sustainability initiatives, is organizing a two-day open-air event on the biomedical campus called "Days of Sustainability 2025". The event will take place on July 2 and 3, 2025, and is open to all University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine employees, as well as scientists from affiliated research institutes and students.
