Skin cancer prevention project “Die Sonne und Wir – Projekt Sonnenbus”

The project “Die Sonne und Wir” is an educational outreach activity for children aimed at increasing their awareness towards sun exposure as a primary preventative strategy to decrease skin cancer rates in adults. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a major risk factor for the development of skin cancer.

The risk of skin cancer can be significantly reduced by simple changes in behavioral patterns by, e.g. avoiding harmful UV intensity, wearing protective clothing, opting for shade, and using sunscreens.

In the course of the project an interactive educational training concept has been developed including the invention of specific educational material/models. Of particular interest is the visual and haptic art education including artistic practice by using the different elements of the shadow theater “Light and Shadow”.
