ORPHEUS Conference 2016

It was a great pleasure for us to host the 11th ORPHEUS Conference
"Lost in translation? From medical studies to clinical research."


The Conference was organized under the patronage of ORPHEUS by the Faculty of Medicine and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne at the University of Cologne.

Aim of the ORPHEUS Conference 2016:

To provide a platform for the discussion of the complete career path in biomedicine and health sciences, beginning with undergraduate level, followed by the doctoral period and the subsequent transition phase. Special emphasis was given to the impact of innovative doctoral educational programs and the training of physician scientists. International experts presented innovative strategies and concepts on the themes:

  • Research training for medical and natural science students in biomedical research
  • Perspectives for physician scientists in the 21st Century
  • Graduate programs for clinicians in biomedicine and health sciences
  • Impact on innovations within doctoral education


As one major highlight, Carla Nau (Lübeck - GER) presented as our honorary guest speaker of the ORPHEUS Lecture 2016 "Challenges of becoming a physician scientist - a personal insight" on March 10th, 2016.

The conference program also included:

a debate session “Pros and cons for the career as physician scientist" - a poster session for networking  - four workshop sessions.
One workshop was organized by ORPHEUS PhD student representatives for participating students. In addition, further student activities and a "Student Hosting Program" had also been organized.

The ORPHEUS Conference 2016 attracted

  • Scientists and physicians interested in doctoral education in the field of biomedicine and health sciences
  • Chairs and coordinators of Graduate Schools and Programs in the field of biomedicine and health sciences
  • Students at all stages of their education
  • Representatives from organisations involved in and/or having a special interest in doctoral education

 

ORPHEUS Poster Prize Awardees 2016
